ABOUT US
Ha-Barannu is a multi-purpose, non-profit, and tax-exempt organization designed to offer five distinct programs under its constituent services:
- English as a Second Language (ESL) –personalized tutoring for adult learners, both in-person and virtual classes.
- Citizenship Preparation (CP) – in-person and virtual classes to help qualified adults prepare for U.S. citizenship exams.
- General Educational Development (GED) / High School Equivalency Program- offered both in-person and virtually to help adults earn a GED or high school equivalency diploma.
- Dual Enrollment (DE) – coordinates gifted 11th and 12th-grade students from Philadelphia and the surrounding counties to take college-level English, math, science, and social science courses on Saturdays at Lincoln University of PA’s SACE branch located at 3020 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA. Classes are both in-person and virtual.
- Homework Assistance and Tutoring – support for students in grades 1–12 from the Philadelphia area. The location can be either at participating students’ respective schools or designated places.
The phrase Ha-Barannu is derived from the Afaan Oromoo, or the native language of the Oromo people of the Horn of Africa, which means “Let’s Learn!
